IPKG Web isan installable package for the NSLU2 that can be installed through ipkg using the following command (as root)

ipkg install ipkg-web

This is a web front end for IPKG to make it easier to install new packages, upgrade packages and delete a package which you might have installed.

It makes it so much simpler to see exactly what packages you have installed with IPKG and to see what else is available!

Once installed, simply connect to: http:///Management/package.cgi and from there it is very straight forward!

Website fixup

So - I think I’ve finally managed to clear up the last few issues for the presentation of the website now.

The list of changes is quite long and includes:

added/updated main CSS
Changed a few wordpress templates
Removed post/page empty lines (no longer needed)
Added Links
Changed the logo

I’ve tested these changes mainly in firefox 3, though I’ve run a very quick test in IE7 to make sure it all looked ok.
I’m sure when IE8 is released, I’ll be re-doing some of the CSS to make it work in that!

Once I’m confident the theme is working correctly, then I might release it.

AgeMame Layout Editor (ALE) v0.8.4a

Has been released and can be obtained either through the automatic update or by downloading it from the following link:
AGEMAME Layout Editor (Windows Installer)

The only major change is an upgrade to Java 6. The Win32 installer has been changed to include a v6 JRE rather thank a v5.

Forums

I’ve added some forums to the website to allow the discussion of NSLU2 information and anything else.

The forums can be accessed either from the menu bar at the top of the screen , or by following this URL:
http://forums.pembo.co.uk

The forums are currently quite bare and need branding - hopefully they will grow into a useful resource, though they require users for that!
Please feel free to register and post any questions be they NSLU2/Slug related or anything else.

NSLU2 Ftp Client - Yet Another FTP Client (YAFC)

So - I’ve been using FTP on my NSLU2 for a while, however when the connection drops, the FTP application seems to hang, plus its a real pain to resume a file once it has hung!

To work around this, I’ve downloaded YAFC (http://yafc.sourceforge.net/ ) and compiled this on the NSLU2.
It works a treat - simple download the source, use the configure, and then make and it works as you’d hope.

Resuming is really easy - just get the file and press R to resume when it realises the file exists.

Firefox 3

The categories on the right hand side were dropping down the page in firefox 3, so I’ve simplified the CSS for these and it now works in Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer. Previously it never worked in Internet Explorer properly so it was a bonus when I got it working in firefox to see it right in IE!

I’m going to presume the change works in all other browsers until I know any different!

PC Death!

So, I’ve not done too much with my NSLU2 recently as my PC died, so I had to sort out a replacement when I figured it was beyond repair. I’m now back online and will soon be looking into more ways to make my NSLU2 even more useful!

Attempted hack…

So yesterday, someone tried in vain to hack into this website. I’m not quite sure why they’d bother, but 150 or so tries later they gave up…

It leads me to wonder how sad people must be to spend that amount of time trying to hack a website, for what purpose… to make them feel big, to make them feel good, superior?

Whatever it is, they really should try getting a life…

Slight change

I’ve updated the website slightly to improve the URL structure.

I’ve taken advantage of Wordpress’s permalink options to use the post slug in the URL rather than having ugly URL parameters that previously existed.

This makes the site that little bit more friendly and will hopefully make linking to the site that little bit easier. Any old links will still work and don’t have to be changed.

htop - An interactive process viewer on the NSLU2

I recommend htop for any Linksys NSLU2 owner whos ‘unlsung their slug’.

htop is a package that can be installed through ipkg using the following command (as root)

ipkg install htop

Once installed, just type ‘htop’ to run the process viewer.

It’s a curses based process viewer that lets you see, sort and kill processes running on the NSLU2.
